  • Duration per the operator: 10 hours

Ten hours from Reykjavik to a glacier

This tour combines the usual Golden Circle sights with a ride on a monster truck onto a glacier, all in a single ten-hour day. You leave Reykjavik and head south, with stops that include the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and the Thingvellir National Park, before the truck takes over for the glacier leg. The itinerary also reaches the black sand coastline near Vík í Mýrdal, though the exact balance of time between the classic sights and the glacier is not laid out in advance. The tour runs in English with an expert guide. Pricing starts at 275 USD per person. It is not accessible for wheelchairs, so anyone with limited mobility will need to look elsewhere. The day is long, and the glacier portion is the reason the price sits well above the simpler Golden Circle tours that cost a fraction of this one.

What the 275 USD covers and what it does not

The entry price of 275 USD buys the full day: transport from Reykjavik, the guide, and the monster truck ride onto the glacier. Food is not part of the deal, so you should carry lunch and snacks for the day. The operator offers free cancellation, though no deadline is attached to that offer. No admission or parking fees apply at any of the stops on the route, so the price you see is effectively what you pay unless you choose to buy food. The tour is not wheelchair accessible, which is worth factoring into your planning before you book.

The order follows the weight of evidence and not the commission. Every value comes from the same catalogue fields, so that the columns compare.

How many people have judged it?

The number of ratings per listing, the score in brackets. A score without the population behind it tells you nothing.

A score with almost nothing behind it

The tour carries a 4.4 out of 5 rating, but that figure comes from only six reviews. Six people is not a sample size that tells you much about how the tour runs week to week, and the score should be read with that in mind. Within the Golden Circle category, this listing ranks 74th of 162, and by the number of reviews it sits 78th. The price ranks 69th of 162, squarely in the middle of a field that spans from 79 to over 4,000 USD. In short, the rating is too thin to carry much weight, and the tour itself is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive way to see the Golden Circle. What distinguishes it is the glacier element, which the cheaper tours do not offer.

The day, stop by stop

The order follows the usual run of the day. Each stop names what is there and the figures behind it; everything else is in the data sheet.

  1. Meeting point

The catalogue names no meeting point and does not say whether pickup is included. Check the booking page before you pay.

  2. Reykjavik

A place on this list is a stop, not a promise about how long you spend there.

When the long day works best

Reykjavik's temperatures stay mild all year, with highs ranging from about 3 degrees in January to 15 degrees in July. The real constraint is daylight. A ten-hour tour in December, when the sun barely climbs above the horizon, means much of the day runs in twilight or darkness. The glacier leg in particular needs light to be worth the money. From late spring through early autumn, the long daylight hours give you a full ten hours of usable time. In the summer months, highs of 13 to 15 degrees are comfortable for being outside at the glacier, though you will still want layers. The shoulder months of May and September, with highs around 10 to 11 degrees and plenty of daylight, are a solid compromise. Winter is possible, but you are paying for a glacier view you may barely see.

What happens when the truck meets the ice

The day starts in Reykjavik and moves south through the Golden Circle sights before the monster truck takes over. The glacier itself is the part that needs the most thought. Weather in Iceland closes roads and changes plans quickly, and a guide who turns back from the glacier because conditions are poor is doing the job properly. The stops at Gullfoss and the black sand beach at Vík í Mýrdal have paths that stay wet all year and freeze in winter, so sturdy footwear matters. The truck ride is the unstaffed part of the day in the sense that you are with the guide the whole time, and there is no separate admission gate or parking fee to manage at any stop. You simply follow the guide's lead from the pickup point to the glacier and back.

Who should book this tour

This tour suits travellers who want the Golden Circle checklist and a glacier in one day, without arranging two separate trips. The monster truck is the draw, and it justifies the price gap over the standard tours. If your priority is simply the Golden Circle at the lowest cost and with the most reviews behind it, the Golden Circle Full-Day Tour with Kerid Crater runs 7 to 8.5 hours from 91 USD and carries a 4.8 rating from over 26,000 reviews. That is the sensible alternative for budget-focused travellers. If you want the glacier but not the truck, the comparable listings do not offer it, so this tour stands alone in that regard. The lack of wheelchair access rules it out for anyone who needs it, and the thin review count means you are booking on the operator's promise rather than a proven track record. For able-bodied travellers who want the glacier without a separate multi-day trip, this is the one to take.

Six listings a reader of this page is genuinely torn between: same departure point first, then the same destinations, then a similar length. Each card leads to a page with the same data sheet rather than straight to the operator, so you can compare before you book.

Common questions

Is admission included?

The catalogue does not say. Where the route is waterfalls and beaches there is nothing to pay; ask if it includes a paid attraction.

How long does the tour really take?

The catalogue gives 10 hours. That is the operator's own figure and covers the tour itself, not the time you spend getting to the meeting point.

Is there a guide who works in English?

Yes, the operator lists English as a guiding language. That is the operator's commitment, not a checked property of the person on the day.

Where do I find all the data on this tour?

In the data sheet on this page. It carries every field on the tour, on each place it visits and on the climate of the departure city, each with its source, and it downloads as a CSV.

Does this listing's rating mean anything?

Not much yet. 4.4 out of 5 from only 6 ratings is too few to draw a conclusion from, however high the score.
